River City Food Bank    (Motel voucher only based on availability of funds) 1322 27th Street, Sacramento, CA 95816 (916) 446-2627  Hours: Monday - Friday 11:30 am - 3 pm   Intake: Walk-in; individual interview conducted, individual ID and SS card required  Eligibility: Residents of Sacramento County Needs assessment, information and referral, follow-up, client advocacy, crisis intervention, and food distribution. Limited emergency rental assistance and motel voucher programs.


Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center

Languages: Spanish  Intake: Telephone (No walk-ins)
Eligibility: Sacramento County homeless families (with children) and single parents with kids, with no other resources.

  • Temporary emergency shelter,
  • meals,
  • transportation,
  • health services and
  • clothing for those housed at SAEHC, within the limit of available resources.

Length of stay determined by need and ability to function within shelter rules, up to 60 days. Counseling and case work services, assistance in locating permanent housing and transitional housing programs. Medical referral and medical care for children. Information and referral. Workshops in parenting and money management for residents. Children's services. Sacramento City Unified School District Homeless Education services for grades 1- 12; Head Start for ages 3-kindergarten

St. John's Shelter for Women and Children

Hours: Seven days a week, 24-hours
Languages: Most languages by arrangement
Intake: Telephone; must contact shelter daily to stay on waiting list
Eligibility: Single women or women with children; male children no older than 14 years of age.

Emergency shelter for single women or women with children for 60 days; serving 3 meals and 2 snacks a day; referral and advocacy services. Children may enroll in Preschool and Mustard Seed School. Access to counselors and group support. Staff works with guests to develop a plan regarding their options when the 60 days stay is over. Waiting list.
